Introduction
HRM is now often seen as the major factor differentiating between successful and unsuccessful organizations, more important than technology or finance in achieving competitive advantage.
Human Resource Planning process that consists of developing and implementing plans and programs to ensure that the right number and type of individuals are available at the right time and place to fulfill organizational needs (Randal, 2000).

Walmart is an American multinational retail company having two million employees.HR department forecasts its workforce needs to ensure capacity to address changes in consumer demand. While other forecasting methods and techniques are also used, these three are the most notable at Walmart: Bottom-up approach, Trend analysis and Delphi method.
Local context with Sri Lanka Telecom
SLT is a leading company is practicing the HR planning in
systematic method and its high impact available for the organization
performance. Because telco industry is based on the services sector hence need skill based employees to perform well .
Currently following the short term and long term HR plan types to maintain the
human resource requirement. I would like to recommend to decentralized HR department based on the regional wise to identify the actual gaps in regional setup .It will be great for the company performance.
Conclusion
Any organization should have an organization plan to achieve the set goals. Human resource is the work force bring in to the action plan. It is an integral part of the business and is directly related to the formulation and implementation of business strategy

Human resource planning is also important to manage if there is any employee turnover due to VRS, retirement, marriage, promotion, critical illness and death which are unavoidable.
